It was a slow day in the Artrocker.com inbox, with one-man-one-dog wannabe-musicians from obscure countries playing noseflutes to try and gain some exposure making up the bulk. Luckily, included amongst it all was We Are Like the Spider, hailing from Missouri in the States. Once a lonely duo, they’re now a fully-fledged orgy of a foursome.
Slightly off-kilter and a wee bit deranged, electronic infused art-indie is the order of the day. Listening to tracks like Lightning Garden will probably give you an idea of the sort of sounds Goldfrapp must have in her dreams whilst she slumbers.
At times the whispery electro singing can seem a bit too close to becoming predictable rather than innovative (See Shutterly if that’s your thing), but even then there are a host of nice odd sounds to hook your interest until the next track, which will hopefully be MANIA; the band seem far more at home with the rockier, guitar-led stuff. In particular, the desperately-singing vocal style rings home more with the likes of the wonderful You Say Party! We Say Die!
